We are now taking registrations for our next Artful Aging class: Introduction to Acting! This is a free ten week long workshop in acting, taught by Ed Breese of Blue Moon Theatre. Participants must be 55 years of age or older. There will be a culminating performance event on Saturday, July 7 at 2:00 PM. Lisa Williams, Adult Services Librarian at JCPL, says “acting was a crying hole in our curriculum last year. It seems like everybody has a burning ‘closet ambition,’ and acting is one of the major ones.” To register for this or any of our other Artful Aging Classes, call us at 423-434-4454.
The Introduction to Acting workshop will meet on Mondays from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., beginning on April 30. The workshop will meet at the Blue Moon Theatre, located at 215 East Main Street in Johnson City, TN. The workshop will culminate in a public performance by the participants on Saturday, July 7 at 2:00 p.m. It is ideal for adults with little to no experience in acting who would like to build skills in public speaking and have fun working with others in an ensemble. Previous acting experience is not necessary, but a strong commitment to attend each session is required.
Johnson City Public Library was selected again in 2018 to receive a “Seeding Artful Aging” grant from Aroha Philanthropies. Artful Aging programs inspire and enable older adults to learn, make, and share the arts in ways that are novel, complex, and socially engaging. Their work is driven by “teaching artists whose creative process and understanding of older adults bring joy, connection, improved health and well-being, and a renewed sense of purpose to older adults in community and residential settings.”
