Symphony in the Stacks: Classical Music for the Community

Your Library and the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra (JCSO) are partnering to present Symphony in the Stacks on Wednesday, November 13 at 6 p.m. in the Library’s Jones Meeting Room. The concert is free, open to the public, and first-come, first-seated. It will feature a trio: Peter Ryan on piano, Larry Mueller on oboe, and Cherylonda Fitzgerald on cello. The trio will play pieces by Frédéric Chopin, Bedřich Smetana, Robert Schumann, and Antonín Dvořák, among others.

Library Director Julia Turpin says that this library-symphony partnership has grown out of a desire to make classical music more approachable, comfortable, and fun for a more diverse audience. Turpin says, “Like the written word, classical music has the power to evoke deep emotion, but it is often not as accessible. I hope attendees leave feeling inspired, entertained, or simply curious and excited to learn more about classical music.”
