Universal Class Introduction & Other Computer Classes

Looking for new skills to push you to the next level? Universal Class is here for you! Universal Class is an online learning portal offered to all Johnson City Public Library card holders for free. Lisa Krekelberg, Adult Services Librarian at JCPL, says Universal Class is a great resource for anyone who wants to learn something new. “Universal Class has a lot options and is very high quality. It also offers Continuing Education Credits.” Of course, any time you try something new it can be nice to learn from an expert. That’s why Lisa is offering an introduction to Universal Class as part of our ongoing computer class series on Thursday, May 10, at 3:00 PM in our second floor computer lab. This class is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.

Lisa has been teaching computer classes on Thursday afternoons since early February, but so far the classes have mostly focused on beginning computer skills. This exploration of Universal Class will be an example of a “next step” library users could take. “Universal Class can take learners so much farther than I can” says Lisa. “You can take up to 5 classes at a time through Universal Class, complete with instructor feedback.” This Universal Class Introduction will detail how to sign up for and access classes, which frequently include videos to watch, reading, and discussion boards.

“There are so many different topics! History, Math, Business, Health, Web Development, and more. Universal Class is a great place to gain skills for personal or professional development.” Lisa adds that Universal Class is a good way to prepare for going back to school for a formal degree program as well. “A lot of college courses, online or in person, use online course management systems similar to Universal Class. This is a good way to become accustomed to that type of tool and learning experience.”
