Celebrate Your Library’s 127th Birthday!

Fun fact: your Library turned 127 years old on May 1, 2022! To celebrate, we’re throwing a big 127th Birthday Bash on Friday, May 13. Everyone is invited to drop by the Library between 4:30-6 p.m. for birthday cake, refreshments, and door prizes. (And be prepared for some other fun surprises as well!)

Why Celebrate 127?

It may seem odd to celebrate a number like 127, but our thought was, “Why not?!”

We had planned to celebrate our 125th birthday in 2020 with several big events, all of which had to be canceled due to the pandemic.

Library Director Julia Turpin says, “We were so excited to celebrate our 125th birthday in 2020, but 2020 had other plans for us. So, this year we decided to honor our 127 years of service instead.”

“We think 127 is still a number worth celebrating.” she says, “It’s an impressive milestone, even if it isn’t a multiple of five!”

Birthday Party Fun

The birthday party fun will include cake, refreshments, door prizes, and games.

You’ll also have the chance to learn more about big renovations we made during the last year. These projects include the redesigned Children’s Library and Woodland Wonderland mural, new study rooms, and an upgraded technology network. We’ll also unveil some new artwork in the building—made specifically for the Library—by ETSU graphic design students.

And people who purchased commemorative anniversary bricks last year can view where they’ve been installed.

Revealing the One Story, One Community Book

Another 127th birthday celebration we have planned is the One Story, One Community reading initiative. One Story, One Community focuses on getting as many people in our community as possible to read the same book this summer.

We’ll reveal the book chosen for this community read at the birthday party on May 13! You can also pick up your free copy of the book that day.
