New Monthly Book Group at Johnson City Brewing Company

Have you read a book you want to talk about with fellow bibliophiles? Do you love chatting with friends over a pint? Then your Library’s new monthly discussion group, Bring Your Own Book, is the place for you!

What is Bring Your Own Book?

Bring Your Own Book is a partnership between your Library and Johnson City Brewing Company (JCBC). It meets on the fourth Thursday of every month at JCBC’s new Boones Creek location (2362 Boones Creek Road, Johnson City).

The first Bring Your Own Book is on Thursday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. Since April is National Poetry Month, this month’s Bring Your Own Book is Shakespeare-themed. All local poets, thespians, and anyone who loves the written word (and a good pint!) are invited to come talk about their favorite Shakespeare plays and poems.

JCPL Adult Services Manager Lisa Krekelberg hopes people will enjoy talking with fellow book lovers. “I know I often get to the end of a good book and can’t wait to share it with others or find someone else who’s read it,” she says. She also hopes people walk away with new reading suggestions.

Some months Bring Your Own Book will have a theme or literary focus, while some will be more open-ended. May’s will be open-ended—meaning, bring any book you want to talk about—and will include book-themed trivia.

In June we’ll discuss our One Story, One Community title (which will be unveiled at your Library’s 127th Birthday Bash on Friday, May 13!). And because this year’s Summer Reading theme is “Oceans of Possibilities,” July’s Bring Your Own Book will focus on your favorite nautical or beach reads.

Where Does the Group Meet?

Bring Your Own Book meets at JCBC’s new location in Boones Creek (2362 Boones Creek Road, Johnson City). Lisa says, “We’re excited to work with JCBC to offer a program for people on the north end of Johnson City.”

“We’ve partnered with JCBC at their downtown location in the past, and it’s been great,” Lisa explains. “But people can’t always make it downtown to attend events. We’re really looking forward to meeting at JCBC’s beautiful new facility in Boones Creek and sharing this unique program with people who live farther out!”

No registration is required for Bring Your Own Book, all you have to do is show up! Call Adult Services at (423) 434-4454 for more information.
