Most items in the Johnson City Public Library collection have a checkout period of two weeks, with some longer items checking out for four weeks. Mobile hotspots have a variable checkout period ranging from a minimum of 2 days to a maximum of 2 weeks.
Eligible items will automatically renew starting February 9, 2018. Login to your account to ensure the items you expect have auto-renewed. If you would like to renew items yourself, login to your account at the top of the page, send an e-mail to email@example.com, call the Circulation Services Department at 423-434-4455 or visit the Circulation Desk or one of the self-checkout kiosks. Most items may be renewed up to two times with the following exceptions:
- Items reserved by another patron.
- DVDs cannot be renewed.
- Interlibrary loan items from outside the OWL region.
- Items that are overdue may not be renewable online. Please call the library if you have any difficulties.
Book Drop Locations
A drive-up book and media drop is located in the parking area beside the library, between the upper and lower lots. Items may be returned using this book drop 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Items returned inside the library should be placed in the returns slot just past the Circulation Desk, on your left as you enter the library.
Charges and Fees
The fine for all overdue items (except for DVDs) is 20¢ per day, per item, with a fine of $1.00 per day for DVDs. There is a one day grace period for most items. However, if an overdue item is turned in after the grace period, the patron will be fined for that day as well. The maximum fine for all items is $5.00.
Mobile hotspots are prepaid for the number of days they are borrowed at a rate of $2.00 per day. If they are returned late, the borrower will be fined $2.00 per day, with no grace period.
Fees for Damaged or Lost Items
Patrons are charged for damaged or lost items. The fee for a damaged item will be the amount required to restore the item to circulating condition (up to the cost of replacement). The fee for a lost item is the replacement cost for the item. In both cases, an additional $5.00 processing fee is charged.
Lost library cards can be replaced for a charge of $1.00 for the first replacement, and $5.00 for any subsequent replacement cards.
Fee for Reserved Items Not Picked Up
There may be a $1.00 fee per item for reserved items that are not picked-up. If we are notified that the item is no longer needed or cannot be picked up, there is no charge.
