Laptops, Scanners, Software, Printing
The library has a limited number of laptops that are available for job seeking with NO time limit. These laptops check out with a driver’s license and do not leave the Reference area. An optical scanner is also available.
The library offers a wide range of current software to support job seeking, small business activities, and career development, including Microsoft 2013 Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Publisher, image editing programs Paint.net, Gimp 2, and Inkscape, and Google apps such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.
Network printing is available from the library’s Computer Instruction Lab. These computers require a library card or computer center card to access. Click here for requirements to get a library card. Printing from a wifi connected device is not available. Printing rates are $0.15 per page for black & white, $0.50 per page for color.
Classes and Special Events
The library holds classes on basic computer skills every month. Additionally, special events such as workshops or job fairs are held from time to time. Check our Events calendar for dates and times.
JCPL offers one-on-one tutoring for those who need extra help with submitting online applications, common software programs such as MS Word, and other skills needed for today’s workplaces. Call the Reference Desk at 423-434-4454 to schedule an appointment.
