We’re featuring our favorite new app this week: Libby, by Overdrive.
Libby is your gateway to free audiobooks and eBooks from JCPL. If you’ve ever used READS, the Regional EBook and Audiobook Download Service, then you owe it to yourself to give Libby a try. Overdrive has put together a fantastically easy to use app. To get started, just visit the app store on your device and download Libby.
Once you’ve downloaded Libby, it’s super easy to start. Just tap the “Find My Library” button! Libby will then search for your local library (We’re listed at Holston River Region – Johnson City Public Library). Then you’ll enter your library card number (look on the back of your card), and you’re ready to go!
You can browse highlighted collections or search for items right inside the Libby app. Once you find a book you want, hit “borrow” or “place hold.” If it’s available, it will start to download right away! If you have to place a hold, you can check to see how long you’ll wait. Once your hold comes up though, it will download automatically—one of our favorite features!
There are a ton of other great features in Libby too. Just tap the menu button at the top of the screen and you’ll open the settings tab. Here you can change your library, switch between library cards (in case you have a card from another library in the area), and so much more.
We really can’t say enough good things about Libby. Whether you’re a long-time READS user or someone who’s never tried an audiobook or eBook before, give Libby a try. You won’t regret it!
Have questions about Libby or READS? Give us a call at 423-434-4454, or visit our Libby/READS computer tutoring class this week! We have a session planned at 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 15 in our second floor computer lab to walk you through this entire process.
