The Johnson City Public Library has a Courier arrangement with the other libraries of the Northeast Tennessee Library Network. The entire collection of the Network is available for searching online. Books that are available at other libraries in the Network can be requested through the Courier service by placing a request. Some items are not eligible for loan, and any requests placed on these items will be cancelled: new books, DVDs, videos, CDs, audio books, or books that are currently in high demand. The owning library has the discretion as to whether or not an item is loaned. To place a request on a book that appears at a location other than Johnson City Public Library, log onto the online catalog using your library card number, contact or visit the Information Desk on the second floor, or contact or visit the Circulation Desk on the first floor. Contact Information at 434-4454 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Contact Circulation at 434-4455 or email email@example.com.
If a book you need is not available in our library or in the Northeast Tennessee Library Network, we can try to obtain the item through Interlibrary Loan. Interlibrary Loan is a courtesy extended among most libraries in the United States. While this service is free within the state of Tennessee, libraries in other states may charge ($10.00 minimum) for this service, and we pass this charge along to you. To request a book by Interlibrary Loan, contact (call 423-434-4454 or email firstname.lastname@example.org) or visit the Information Desk on the second floor. The Reference staff will make every effort to secure books and photocopies for users with JCPL Library Cards in good standing. Be prepared to provide as much information as possible about the requested item.
There are a few exclusions to this service:
- Books published within the last year may not be requested.
- Audio-visual materials such as DVDs and sound recordings may not be requested.
- Photocopies are limited to 20 pages and must comply with copyright requirements.
- Genealogical materials are not usually available for loan.
If an item is unavailable for Interlibrary Loan, we will try to provide you with locations you could visit to access the material.
