Food for Fines: Johnson City – Washington County Animal Shelter

Food for Fines is off to a great start! You know by now that you can donate 1 can of food or a box of non-perishable food and we’ll take $1.00 off your library fines. But did you know that we’re also accepting pet food? We’ll take $1.00 in fines off your account for every pound of dry dog or cat food donated, or $1.00 for every 2 cans of wet dog or cat food.

Just like we’re partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank, we’re partnering with the Johnson City – Washington County Animal Shelter for our pet food donations!

The Johnson City – Washington County Animal Shelter is a joint venture between Johnson City and Washington County to enforce the animal control laws of the City and state. It also protects the rights of people against the dangers and nuisances of uncontrolled animals and protects animals from mistreatment and abuse.

The animal shelter took in more than 5,500 dogs and cats in 2016. Almost 4,000 of those were adopted, reclaimed, or otherwise released live. They partner with Petsmart to hold weekly pet adoption fairs, in addition to adoptions at their new location at 3411 N Roan St. They also have information about low-cost spay/neuter services available for the public.
