Have you been avoiding your Library because of overdue fines? Well, it’s your lucky day!
Beginning Monday, May 1 you can give back to your community and pay off your late fines at the same time through Food for Fines. Food for Fines is a month-long program we’re offering in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee.
You can drop off unexpired canned goods and nonperishable food items at your Library to waive your overdue fines until Wednesday, May 31.
No fines are too big and all materials are eligible! The only charges that can’t be waived are those incurred for lost or damaged items.
We will deduct $1 in fines for each unexpired canned good or nonperishable food item you bring to the Library. All donated items must carry their original packaging and labels. We can’t accept glass jars, home-canned food, packaging with holes, or baby formula.
Second Harvest suggests cereal, peanut butter, canned goods, macaroni and cheese, pasta sauce, and dry goods like rice, beans, and noodles.
Bring your donations to the Circulation Desk, where Library staff will inspect the items and then apply them toward your fines. For more details about Food for Fines, call (423) 434-4475.
