The public is invited to an open house celebration of Bob Swanay’s career Tuesday, October 25 from 5:30-7:00 pm at the Johnson City Public Library. Swanay, who’s been director of the library for the past eight years and an employee for a total of 21 years, begins his new role as director of the Carmel Clay Public Library in Carmel, Indiana November 7.
Meanwhile, the Johnson City Public Library Board of Directors Chair Joy Fulkerson announced the appointment of two interim directors to fill Swanay’s position; Assistant Director Cathy Griffith and Adult Services Librarian Lisa Krekelberg, will share the responsibility of leading the library while the board conducts a national search for a new director.
“The board has strong confidence in the amazing staff of the Johnson City Public Library during this period of transition,” said Fulkerson. “The interim directors and staff have our full support as they carry on with the many tasks that have made the Johnson City Public Library such a remarkable organization through the years.”
Under Swanay’s leadership, the library saw tremendous growth in its circulation, programs and use of technology. “We know Bob set the bar high. We will be looking for our next director to improve upon the continuous progress the public has come to expect from our region’s flagship public library,” Fulkerson said.
