Johnson City Public Library’s Facility Maintenance Department has an opening for a part-time Facility Clerk I. This staff member performs a variety of janitorial duties necessary to maintain the Library building, facilities, and grounds. Duties may include physically strenuous activities, such as moving furniture and operating heavy cleaning equipment. This staff member will be guided by a daily schedule for general assignments and by specific instructions for special assignments. This staff member is evaluated through observations and conferences, and reports directly to the Facility Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sweeps, mops, polishes, and vacuums
- Cleans windows, blinds, walls, and light fixtures and replaces bulbs as necessary
- Cleans restroom areas and replenishes paper supplies and soap as needed
- Moves and rearranges furniture
- Assists in removing ice and snow from sidewalks as needed
- Cleans all offices, staff rooms, and public areas of Library building
- Removes debris and litter from buildings and grounds
- Collects paper for recycling
- Sets up the Library’s Jones Meeting Center for outside programs and staff programs
- Performs related work as required
- May be asked to empty the book drop
- May open and close the building
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of modern cleaning methods, materials, and equipment. Ability to use cleaning materials properly and to keep the premises in a clean and sanitary condition. Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Desirable Experience and Training: Preferably some building cleaning experience and completion of a standard grade school course, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Other Requisites: From time to time the incumbent may be assigned special duties by a supervisor, or on a temporary basis may be asked to assist other employees occupying a different position. ADA Requirements: Tasks involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces, and lifting and carrying moderately heavy (20-50 lbs.) items and occasionally, with assistance, very heavy items over 50 pounds; or may involve the operation of gasoline powered equipment. Task involves the frequent use of coordinative and manipulative skills in performing a variety of tasks with the full range of hand and power tool and shop equipment; or the skilled and complex operation of heavy equipment calling for adherence to exacting standards of debt, grade, dimensions and contours.
Environmental Requirements: Tasks may require some exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g., dirt, cold, rain, fumes).
Sensory Requirements: Tasks require color perception and discrimination; sound perception and discrimination; odor perception and discrimination; depth perception and discrimination; texture perception and discrimination; and visual perception and discrimination. Tasks require oral communications ability.
Classification and Compensation: This is a non-exempt hourly position. Starting pay in this classification is $11.86 per hour.
The typical schedule will be 20 hours per week. Primary schedule will include Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday afternoon and/or evening hours. However, adjustments may be needed during peak seasons.
