Johnson City Public Library’s User Services Department has an opening for a Library Clerk I. A staff member in this position provides information, research help, reader’s advisory, and computer assistance to the public. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting the public with library and technology services, helping promote and support programs and collections, and ensuring compliance with library policies, code of conduct, and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide informational, research services, and computer assistance to the public.
- Participate in evaluating, supporting, and developing services for the public and the library.
- Ensure that library policies, code of conduct, and procedures are followed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong customer service and technology skills who is comfortable troubleshooting computers and other electronic devices. They must have the ability to work effectively and courteously with the public, work independently and with a team, and possesses excellent communication and research skills. A person in this position is always expected to provide quality customer service.
Desirable Experience and Education: Some college is preferred, computer skills, and customer service experience.
Other Requisites: From time to time the incumbent may be assigned special duties by a superior or, on a temporary basis, may be asked to assist other employees occupying a different position. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks involve some physical effort, i.e. some standing and walking, or frequent light lifting (10-15 pounds) or other restricted physical activities. Manual dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs or body in the operation of shop and office equipment; may involve extended periods of sitting at a keyboard.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g., dirt, cold, rain, fumes).
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Task requires sound perception and discrimination. Task requires visual perception and discrimination. Task requires oral communications ability.
This is an hourly position. Starting pay in this classification is $11.18 per hour. The typical schedule will be 20 hours per week. Evening and weekend work is required.
