Do you have an aspiring artist in your family? In Art Explorers, our monthly program for ages 8-12, kids get to discover art history through hands-on creative projects.

In each session kids learn about a famous historical or contemporary artist. They discover the most important and fun facts about the artist and the iconic style they use. Then kids get to try out the featured artistic style for themselves.

Library Assistant Mirissa Walters leads the program. She says, “My hope is that in creating something they can take with them, kids will retain and appreciate what they’ve learned about the artists and their works.”

The next Art Explorers meets Friday, September 12 at 4 p.m. in the Library’s Jones Meeting Center. Registration is required; click here to sign up.

We’ll learn about Hannah Höch, a German Dada artist and one of the originators of photomontage, a type of collage constructed out of photographs. We’ll experiment with Höch’s signature style by making collages of our own!
