Summer Reading

Summer Reading

Summer Reading is an annual nationwide reading challenge. People set reading goals and spend the summer tracking their progress, winning prizes, and attending events.

Summer Reading is divided by age: preschoolers, school age kids, teens, and adults. But the goal is the same for all: read, read, read!

The program runs from Monday, June 3-Sunday, July 28. This summer’s theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” so look forward to adventure-themed events, activities, and book recommendations!

How to Get Started

You can pre-register for Summer Reading this year! Beginning Wednesday, May 15, click the link below to register yourself and your kids in Beanstack, our online platform for reading challenges.

Register for Summer Reading

The first step is to create a Beanstack account. If you’ve participated in Library reading challenges before, you don’t need to create a new Beanstack account – just use your existing log-in information.

Once you have a Beanstack account, sign up for your age group’s Summer Reading 2024: Adventure Begins at Your Library.

You’ll use Beanstack all summer to log your reading progress, write and read book reviews, and find book recommendations from your librarians.

You can also earn virtual badges in Beanstack when you complete Summer Reading activities, such as reading a recommended book or attending a Library event.

The Beanstack App

We have a free, easy-to-use Summer Reading app called Beanstack Tracker. You can download it on your Apple or Android device from your app store.

Call (423) 434-4450 if you’d like help setting up a Beanstack account or using the app.

Events

We’re kicking off Summer Reading with a block party on Monday, June 3 from 5-7 p.m., complete with inflatables, outdoor games, crafts, and more!

We’ll have events for all ages throughout the summer. This year’s Summer Reading theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” so many of our events will focus on adventure topics and themes.

Prizes

Along with virtual Beanstack badges, you can also win physical prizes throughout Summer Reading! Each age group earns prizes for reading, attending events, doing activities, and writing book reviews.

For preschool and school age kids, prizes include Scholastic book bucks, weekly treasure chest surprises, and free books. Kids can spend the book bucks they earn at our end-of-summer Scholastic Book Fair on August 7-10!

Teens and adults get a free book when they register. The first 50 adults who sign up for Adult Summer Reading also get a free tote bag. Teens and adults who submit book reviews in Beanstack throughout the summer are entered into weekly prize drawings, and both age groups have a grand prize drawing at the end of Summer Reading!
