Ahh! Did that blog title freak you out? It’s true though—your Library is closed to the public until Wednesday, May 1 for a flooring renovation.

We’re replacing the 25-year-old flooring in the Library’s first-floor entryway, lobby, hallways, Polly Peterson Room, and Jones Meeting Center.

We’re excited to update our building’s original flooring with a Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) that is better for our users. It is non-slip and easy to clean, and opens up more possibilities for the types of programs we can offer.

What Does “Closed” Mean?

If you’ve ever undertaken a flooring project, you know that replacing floors is a disruptive job! The Library is essentially be a construction site for a few weeks, and our users’ and staff’s safety are our first priority.

So “closed” means that we can’t offer in-person services or physical materials to our users during this time. Because of construction, we won’t be able to retrieve holds, offer curbside pickup, or reshelve returned books.

Items you borrow that would normally be due between April 10-30 will default to a due date after May 1. Since we won’t be able to reshelve materials, please hold onto your items if possible until their adjusted due date.

What About Events?

We won’t hold events during this time, but there are a few notable exceptions!

Storytime in the Park

Storytime in the Park meets every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the King Commons Natural Adventure Area across the street from the Library. This outdoor storytime is recommended for ages 2-5, but all kids are welcome. If the weather forecast is bad, check our Facebook page after 9:30 a.m. to find out if storytime is happening.

Book Donation Drop-offs

The Friends of the Library hold book donation drop-offs on the first three Saturdays in April. During our closure, this falls on April 13 and 20. You can bring your gently-used books, DVDs, and puzzles to the Library’s parking lot (near the outdoor book drop) from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. You’ll see volunteers there who will help you unload.

Friends of the Library Book Sales

The Friends of the Library hold a huge book sale the last weekend in April in the Library’s Jones Meeting Center. You’ll be able to enter the Jones Meeting Center through the center’s exterior doors, which are located off the parking lot near the outdoor book drop.

On Friday, April 26, Friends members are invited to a special preview sale from 5:30-7 p.m. The sale will be open to the public on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Sunday, April 28 from 1-3 p.m.

You can find more information about the Friends Book Sale here.
